Naturopathy Lower Plenty: Natural, Holistic Health Care
Natural, whole-person health care with naturopath Wayne Grant at our Lower Plenty clinic.
What Our Naturopathic Treatment May Include
Depending on your goals and health history, a naturopathic treatment plan may draw on nutritional medicine, herbal medicine, dietary and lifestyle advice, and other natural therapies. Your naturopath will take time to understand your current diet, sleep, stress levels and any existing health conditions before recommending an approach tailored to you. Naturopathy is often used alongside conventional medical care rather than as a replacement for it, so it’s worth mentioning any current treatments or medications when you book. What to Expect During a Naturopathy Consultation
Your first visit starts with an in-depth conversation about your health history, current symptoms, stress levels, diet and lifestyle habits. Your naturopath may recommend lab testing to build a clearer picture of what’s going on, before putting together recommendations that might include nutritional changes, herbal medicine, or lifestyle adjustments tailored to your circumstances. Naturopathy takes a whole-person approach, looking beyond individual symptoms to the underlying patterns behind them, and treatment plans are reviewed and adjusted as you progress.Conditions Naturopathy Can Support
People see our naturopath for a wide range of concerns, including digestive complaints, fatigue and low energy, hormonal imbalances, skin conditions, stress and sleep difficulties, and general preventative health. Naturopathy is often used alongside conventional medical care rather than as a replacement for it, so it’s worth mentioning any current treatments or medications when you book.Health Funds & Accessibility

Treatment usually includes nutritional medicine, dietary advice, herbal medicine and lifestyle advice. Naturopaths are able to treat both acute and chronic conditions. A naturopathic practitioner is fully skilled at treating patients with many health related problems.
Naturopathy looks at all the aspects of your general health and aims to get to the bottom of the underlying causes of your health problems, rather than just treating the symptoms. Therefore, it is one of the effective methods to treat patients suffering from acute or chronic conditions.

How Does It Work?
The goal of naturopathic medicine is to treat and help the person heal completely which includes the mind, the body, and the spirit. It also aims to heal the root causes of a particular illness not just the symptoms which often results in the recurrence of the disease. With naturopathy, patients are supported in achieving lasting relief. A certified naturopathic practitioner or doctor may spend 1 to 2 hours examining you and may ask a series of questions to assess your lifestyle and wellbeing. They ask questions about your health history, stress levels, and lifestyle habits and may also ask you to undergo some lab tests to know more.
At Bodyline Health, our experienced practitioners work together to look after every case. We understand what our patients want from us and hence we ensure all our patients are offered exceptional services when it comes to their well-being.

What a Naturopathy Consultation Involves, Step by Step
If you have not seen a naturopath before, it helps to know what to expect. A naturopathy appointment with Wayne Grant at our Lower Plenty clinic is mostly a detailed conversation about your health, habits and goals, followed by practical, realistic suggestions.
1. Your Goals
Wayne starts by asking what you would like to get out of your visit. It might be improving your energy, eating better, managing a busy lifestyle, or simply understanding your current habits more clearly.
2. A Whole-of-Life Health History
Expect questions about diet, sleep, digestion, exercise, stress, work and family life, as well as your medical history. This broad picture helps Wayne understand how different areas of your life fit together.
3. Medications, Supplements and Tests
Wayne will ask about every medication, supplement and herbal product you take, and about any results or diagnoses from your GP or specialist. This is an important safety step.
4. Practical Suggestions
Recommendations often focus on food, sleep, movement and daily routines. Where appropriate, Wayne may discuss herbal or nutritional supplements, including what they are, why they are suggested and any precautions.
5. Review
Wayne will suggest whether a follow-up visit might be useful to review how the changes are working in your real life. You decide what suits you.
How Naturopathy Works, in Plain English
Naturopathy is a traditional approach that focuses on lifestyle, diet and natural therapies, and on looking at a person as a whole. A naturopath considers how everyday factors such as food, sleep, stress and activity may be affecting how you feel.
Some naturopathic ideas and remedies have more research behind them than others, and the evidence varies widely. We are open about that, and we do not claim that this approach treats or cures disease. What many people value is the time, the detailed attention and the support to make sustainable changes.
A naturopath is not a replacement for your GP. The best results for your health come from keeping your doctor involved and working together.
A Note on Regulation
Unlike professions such as chiropractic, physiotherapy and Chinese medicine, naturopaths in Australia are not registered with AHPRA. Many belong to professional associations instead. It is reasonable to ask any practitioner about their training and qualifications, and we are always happy to answer those questions.
Who May Choose to See a Naturopath
People book with Wayne for many reasons. Many people seek this kind of care when they:
- Want support to improve their diet and everyday eating habits.
- Feel run down and want to look at sleep, stress and routine.
- Want a second set of eyes on the supplements they already take.
- Are interested in a more natural, lifestyle-based approach to wellbeing alongside regular medical care.
- Would like structure and accountability while making changes.
If you have a diagnosed condition, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or take regular medication, please talk with your GP before starting any new herbs or supplements.
Working Alongside Your GP
Good naturopathy care sits alongside medical care, never in place of it. At Bodyline, we encourage everyone to keep their GP informed.
- Tell your GP about any herbs or supplements a naturopath suggests, and tell Wayne about any medicines your doctor prescribes.
- Tell your pharmacist too. Some herbs and supplements can interact with prescription medicines, including blood thinners, antidepressants and the contraceptive pill.
- Keep up your medical care. Do not stop or change any prescribed medicine without speaking to the doctor who prescribed it.
- Use the onsite Austin Pathology centre for blood tests your GP has requested, which saves a separate trip.
Preparing for Your Naturopathy Appointment
- Bring all your products. Medications, vitamins, supplements, powders and herbal teas, or clear photos of the labels.
- Bring recent results such as blood tests if they are relevant.
- Keep a simple diary of food, drinks, sleep and energy for three to seven days beforehand, if you can.
- Write down your questions so nothing is forgotten on the day.
- Think about what is realistic for your schedule, budget and household.
- Bring your health fund card if you want to claim through HICAPS.
Questions Worth Asking Your Naturopath
- Why are you suggesting this change or product, and what is the evidence behind it?
- How long should I try it, and how will we know whether it is worthwhile?
- Are there any side effects or interactions I should know about?
- Can I make food or lifestyle changes before adding supplements?
- What should I tell my GP?
A good practitioner welcomes these questions and gives clear answers.
How Naturopathy Complements Other Services at Bodyline
Bodyline Health is a multidisciplinary clinic, so different kinds of care are available under one roof if that suits you:
- Nutrition and dietetics with Caroline Robertson, Accredited Practising Dietitian.
- Chinese medicine with Dr Catherine Farchione.
- Chiropractic with Dr Phil Mifsud, plus physiotherapy, myotherapy and remedial massage.
- Counselling with our mental wellness therapist if stress is a big part of the picture.
Combining services is always your choice. Practitioners will talk with you about whether another service may help.
When to See a GP or Seek Urgent Care
This approach is not the right first step for symptoms that need medical assessment. See your GP promptly if you have:
- Unexplained weight loss, ongoing fever or night sweats.
- Blood in your stools or urine, or ongoing changes in bowel habits.
- Ongoing tiredness, breathlessness or dizziness without a clear reason.
- Yellowing of the skin or eyes, or a rash after starting a supplement.
- Persistent low mood. If you have thoughts of harming yourself, call Lifeline on 13 11 14.
Call 000 for chest pain, difficulty breathing, signs of a severe allergic reaction, or sudden weakness on one side of the body. The Better Health Channel provides reliable general information, including on complementary therapies.
Practical Self-Care Habits
Many of the most useful changes are simple. These are general suggestions only:
- Build meals around vegetables, fruit, wholegrains and a source of protein.
- Drink water regularly through the day.
- Keep a consistent sleep and wake time, even on weekends.
- Move most days, whether a walk, a swim or a class.
- Store supplements as directed, check expiry dates, and keep them out of reach of children.
- Change one or two habits at a time rather than everything at once.
How Many Visits Might You Need?
There is no set number. Some people find one or two consultations give them enough direction to carry on independently, while others prefer regular check-ins for support and accountability as they make changes.
Wayne will talk about a sensible review point with you, and the choice is always yours. If changes are not proving worthwhile or practical, say so, and the plan can be adjusted.
Claiming Your Visit
Some private extras policies include this type of care. With HICAPS at reception, you can usually claim on the spot and pay only the gap. Rebates depend on your fund and level of cover, so check with your fund first. See our payments and funding page for more detail.
